Submerging 3D prints in freshwater or marine aquariums requires strict material science discipline. Unlike standard tabletop prints, aquarium decor must endure constant moisture, UV aquarium lighting, biological biofilms, and contact with sensitive fish and invertebrates. At OddityLabs, all aquatic models are engineered with solid watertight geometry and tested for long-term aquatic stability.
OddityLabs Print Note: Standard resin prints must be fully post-cured, thoroughly outgassed for 72+ hours, and sealed with aquatic-grade clear epoxy before tank submersion. Unpigmented virgin PETG is the golden standard for bare FDM tank immersion.
Plastic filaments (density ~1.24β1.27 g/cmΒ³) will float when printed with standard hollow infill due to trapped air pockets. To make decor sink naturally, print with 100% solid infill, or print with an open bottom and insert aquarium-safe stones or cured aquarium gravel sealed with 100% pure silicone.
Microscopic layer ridges collect algae, detritus, and bacteria over time. Use a 0.12β0.16mm layer height to minimize layer steps, and wash prints in dechlorinated tank water during maintenance. A food-safe epoxy dip creates a glass-smooth surface that resists nuisance black beard algae.
OddityLabs aquatic models are pre-radiused to eliminate needle-sharp edges that could snag delicate betta or goldfish fins. Avoid printing sharp decorative protrusions or ensure models are lightly wet-sanded before introducing them to livestock.
Pure, unpigmented virgin PLA is technically non-toxic, but it is biodegradable and will slowly soften and degrade over 1 to 2 years in water. For permanent underwater decor, 100% pure PETG or epoxy-coated resin is significantly more durable, chemically inert, and long-lasting.
100% Watertight Mesh Guarantee: All files are pre-verified with 0 degenerate triangles and 0 non-manifold edges.
